Experience an exciting adventure on the Pacuare River, internationally renowned for the beauty of its landscapes and for offering one of the most comprehensive rafting experiences in Costa Rica. This tour combines nature, adrenaline, and the opportunity to navigate through one of the country’s most spectacular settings.
The adventure begins with a departure from San José to the Pacuare River area. Upon arrival at the starting point, you’ll receive the necessary equipment for the activity, including a helmet, life jacket, and paddle. Before entering the river, experienced guides will provide a comprehensive safety briefing and paddling instructions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Once in the water, you’ll begin a journey of approximately 18 miles through breathtaking natural landscapes. The Pacuare River is famous for its steep, lushly vegetated walls, its waterfalls, and the feeling of being surrounded by virtually untouched nature.
The first few miles of the trip consist of fun Class II and III rapids, ideal for getting familiar with the river’s dynamics and strengthening teamwork. Later, we’ll enter the famous Pacuare Gorge, a section renowned for its spectacular scenery and some of the most thrilling rapids on the trip, including Terciopelo, Doble Caída, Huacas Superior, Huacas Inferior, and Pin Ball. During this section, you’ll also be able to admire the impressive Huacas Waterfall, which plunges directly into the river.
Throughout the journey, you’ll be able to appreciate the natural beauty that characterizes this region of Costa Rica, including tropical forests, waterfalls, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle and enjoying nature in a responsible way, always respecting the environment and wildlife.
Halfway through the adventure, we'll take a break to enjoy lunch surrounded by the tranquility of the tropical forest before continuing on our tour.
After the gorge, the river winds its way into the Pacuare Valley, where rapids alternate with calmer sections that allow you to take in the scenery and enjoy a different kind of experience along the same route. Among the best-known rapids in this section are Cimarrones, The Play Hole, El Indio, and Magnetic Rock.
At the end of the adventure, we’ll arrive at the private operations center in Siquirres, where you can take a shower, change clothes, and relax before heading back. While enjoying the gardens and the terrace, you’ll have the opportunity to share your experiences from a day full of excitement and connection with nature.
At the end of the experience, you'll return to San José with unforgettable memories of one of Costa Rica's most iconic rafting adventures.
